Stourport Literary Institute Boat Club Distribution of Prizes ... 1891

In connection with the above club a most enjoyable concert was held on Monday evening, in the Town Hall, on the occasion of the distribution of prizes gained at the annual club sports. In previous years it has been the custom to present the prizes at the general meeting of the club, but this year, through the praiseworthy endeavours of the popular hon. secretary Mr H. E. Hinton, it was arranged that a concert should be held with a view, if possible, of augmenting the finances of the club. There was a very fair attendance, the whole of the front seats being occupied. The following programme, given by members, assisted by a few friends, was admirably rendered:-
Pianoforte Duet - Les Huguenots - Messrs. Glover and Wedley
Song - The Wolf - Mr F. Simmonds
Song - The Old Finger Post - Miss Wilson
Song - Madeline - Mr H. King
Song - Home, deary home - Miss Johnson
Song - When other lips - Mr V. Fisher
Part Song - Absence - Messrs. J. I., S. and C. Glover, King and Fisher.
Piano Solo - Mr J. I. Glover
Song - Love's request - Mr H. King
Song - Angel's serenade - Miss Johnson
Piano Duet - Gondoliers - Mesrs. Wedley and J. I. Glover
Song - In the chimney corner - Miss Wilson
Song - Wonders of the Deep - Mr S. Glover
Part Song - Good Night - Messrs. J. I., S. and C. Glover, King and Fisher.
Judging from the hearty applause which met each executant, it would be difficult to single any out for special comment. The song, however, by Miss Johnson, 'Angels Serenade', with Violin Obligato by Mr J. I. Glover, was perhaps the most successful.. She was loudly encored, and responded with a very prety ballad.. Miss Wilson also met with a hearty reception in both her songs. During the interval Mr Stanley Baldwin, who had kindly consented to distribute the prizes then awarded them as follows:-
Junior Sculls - V. Fisher - breakfast cruet.
Senior Sculls - V. Fisher - challenge cup and medal.
Swimming - Mason - biscuit jar; S. Glover - silver pencil.
First Pair Oar - S. Glover - silver cup; T. Handley - silver cup; Goodman - medal.
Second Pair Oar - A. Partridge - set studs; G. Jones - half dozen knives; C. Poutney - medal.
First Four Oar - W. Fisher - gold studs; G. Jones - half dozen knives; D. Allum - brown leather bag; A. E. Oakley - brown leather bag; H. Bale - set studs.
Second Four Oar - T. Jones - umbrella; W. Oakley - set studs; H. E. Hinton - clock; Baylis - set studs; H. Haywood - violin case.
It is anticipated that the club will substantially benefit by the undertaking, and both Mr H. E. Hinton and Mr J. I. Glover, who rendered valuable assistance in the musical arrangements, are to be congratulated on the success achieved.
