Regatta
The Regatta is over for another year, and we feel sure that everyone enjoyed it, whether they were spectators or competitors. At our own Regattas we are the hosts to the visiting clubs, consequently there are many of our members who have never seen the actual Regatta, but only the work that is going on. To all those, who give their time and energy to making the Regatta a success, we say thank-you. One visitor was heard to say that he thought it was the best Regatta of the season, that remark shows we are on the right track, and that all the work is to some useful purpose. We hope someday to have not only the best Regatta but also the biggest. The surrounding countryside cannot be bettered, and the course is better than most, except for the small pleasure boats, and our facilities are very good. With the hard work that is put in by members, we should not take long to reach our goal. To everyone who helped, whether as some of you were at the Club all day, or if you were only able to do the odd hour, we thank-you most sincerely. And especially thanks to our Regatta Secretary, who has to carry the Regatta in his mind from January onwards, to the climax of the day. Well done Mr John Trawford.

The weather treated us very kindly and was ideal for rowing and watching. When the ladies crew won their race everyone was delighted, for they have put in a lot of practice and there are so few clubs where they can try their skill. They are - Bow S. Grant, 2. P. Griffiths, 3. J. Scott, Stroke R. Joyner, Cox A. Boy. The day was rounded off very nicely when the maiden crew won their event by beating Stratford in a very close race. The crew were Bow R. Loughlin, 2. R. Sandall, 3. G. A. H. Scott, Stroke B. Gould, Cox C. Preece. We were very sorry that there was no support for the eight oar event, as we believe that this event holds more attraction for the non-rowing public than any other. The Works event is getting more popular. There were eight entries this year, and they put up a very good show, considering that they only had a few weeks coaching. This event was won by ICI Summerfield. If any member has any criticism of the Regatta or any suggestions as to how it might be improved, they should get in touch with the Sec. so that it can be discussed at our next meeting. Again we thank everyone for their help and support.

The secretary wishes to thank all those who have paid their subs during the last month but there are many more to come. Why not write that cheque out now? It has got to be done once and it won't take yoiu a minute - Thank-you.
