Success at Worcester Scullers' Head ... 1973

Stourports two entrants for the first Worcester Scullers Head, a week last Sunday, produced first and second in their respective divisions. Richard Lloyd, racing in the Novice Restricted class, won his first pot of the season by defeating nine other scullers. His nearest rival being some 15 seconds behind. Tom Edwards, in the Senior B division, came second behind Ted Reynolds of Worcester, finishing third overall out of 89 scullers. These two scullers will be appearing again at the Evesham Scullers Head next weekend.
Stourport were not so successful at the fours head, rowed over 3 1/2 miles on the Tideway in London. With positions of 28th and 79th to beat from last year, two crews entered in coxed and coxless best boat divisions. The coxless finished 44th in a time of 12.58, while the coxed four dropped to 112th, in a time of 13.28. These positions put both fours halfway down their respective divisions, results which must be improved upon by winter training.
The Boat Club's football team made their third appearance to draw 1-1 with Hartlebury Taverners XI last Sunday, in a match dominated by high winds rather than any real skill. Next appearance will be in November against Worcester Rowing Club. R. Lloyd Report Oct. 1973
