Win at Worcester ... 1974

Nick Birkmyre, sculling in the elite division of the Worcester Scullers Head came home 10 seconds clear of the rest of the field last Sunday. He had reason to fear two scullers starting close behind him, both from London Rowing Club but his magnificent effort of 16.28 for the 3 mile course was undefeatable.
Stourport's other 5 scullers could not produce quite such brilliant form, though Mick Edmonds in the novice division did well to finish 3rd of 14 in 19.27. Tom Edwards, in the Senior B class finished 25th out of 100 scullers in the second race. His time of 18.10 putting him 3rd of 4 in his division. Peter Lloyd finished well considering his long lay off, 37th overall in a time of 18.48. Richard Lloyd was 6th of 7 in the Open Restricted division, 19th overall in the 60 strong first race. Steve Downes and Mark Cook, both taking part in their first sculling head did well finishing 31st out of 60, and 54th out of 100 respectively.
This is Nick Birkmyre's second Head win this Autumn, he also won the Norfolk Sculls, and including Nigel Goldman's two sculling wins in Scotland for the club, Stourport Boat Club can count a record 18 wins in open events this season, surpassing 1972's 14 wins quite comfortably.
