2 More Wins ... 1975
Stourport Boat Club completed the 1975 rowing season with two wins, to bring the total number of victories in open competition to 22, a record for the club.
Nick Birkmyre stormed over the Monkton Bluefriars Small Boats Head course to win the sculls division by a clear 40 seconds. This brings his personal total to six wins from six events this year, and there's no sign of him slowing up yet.
Richard Lloyd and Tom Edwards finished first overall in the 101 entries at the event, winning the double sculls by nine seconds from a Monkton Combe crew.
The club is now preparing for 1976, the centenary year, which will see many events including a two-day regatta in August, commemorating this milestone in the club history. This Friday sees open night on the social calendar, when club members, past and present will gather as a preview to the coming year. The oarsmans cross-country run is on December 13th starting at 2.45p.m. when some 100 runners will compete for various team prizes. The Stourport Athletics Club will compete this year, and their results will be an interesting comparison to those more used to sitting in boats than leaping over the countryside.
Anyone who feels they would like to try their hand at rowing is invited to come down any Saturday afternoon or Sunday morning, when they will be made welcome.
