2 Wins at Mumbles ... 1975
Stourport added another 2 trophies to its 1975 haul by winning Senior A and Junior Under 16 Fours at Mumbles Regatta. These wins bring the total of trophies won this year to 14, equalling 1972, a record year.
The Senior A F our, a scratch crew thrown together on the day, rowed very well to beat Monmouth in the semi-final, winning by 1/2 length after having clear water at halfway. Rough conditions demanded good oarsmanship which told in Stourport's favour, but as the sea became calmer towards the finish Monmouth hauled back some of the defecit. In the final against Worcester the home club pulled away from the start and held a comfortable 3/4 length lead to the finish.
The Junior Under 16 crew, made up of three of the successful under 15's from Bewdley Regatta, rowed very well to beat a powerful Hereford in their first heat. Again Stourport had an early lead which was later reduced, but not enough to stop the club's progression to the final. This Hereford crew had already beaten a good four from Monmouth but Stourport crossed the line 1/2 length in front. They were then sent straight back to the start to race Worcester which they did most successfully, winning by 1 1/2 lengths. This is the second junior win for the club and a very promising future is in store.
The Novices won their way to the final by beating Llandaff by 1 length and Mumbles by 1 1/2 lengths, Gloucester produced the other finalists and a clever piece of coxing saw Stourport pushed too far into the bank, resulting in Gloucester's victory of 1 length. A Senior B Four and a Pair Oar also entered made up of oarsmen already competing in other events, but both lost in their first heats.
