Stourport Narrowly Lose London Final ... 1975
The Boat Club were represented at Hammersmith Regatta last Saturday and came within three feet of winning Junior Under 18 Fours. In a straight final with Huntingdon the crew were over a length down at halfway, but a storming finish saw them foiled just short of their goal.
At Leicester Regatta, the following day, three entries could not raise quite such a good performance though no-one was disgraced. Mick Edmonds did well in Novice Sculls to reach the semi-final, beating St Neots and North Staffs by comfortable distances. Derby, however, proved too strong though the scullers were level till just short of halfway.
In Novice Fours, Stourport lead in the early stages of their race with Bewdley but could not maintain the pace, allowing their local rivals to slip by for a win of 2 lengths. Two of this crew will link with two of the Hammersmith junior crew for a final attempt at a novice win this Saturday.
In Senior C Sculls, Richard Lloyd gained a victory in his first heat against Nottingham Boat Club after a clash at halfway causing his opponent to be disqualified. In th equarter final against Evesham he could not repeat the performance, losing by one length.
The club will be out in force at Trentham Regatta this Saturday, the last regatta of the season. Stourport will contest Senior A, Novice and Junior Under 15 Fours, and Senior C, Novice and Junior Under 16 Sculls. One win is required for this to be Stourport's most successful season for many years.
