New Eight ... 1975
Rowing in Stourport has been enriched from last weekend when the club took delivery of a brand new eight from Spartan Racing Boats. The craft, as yet unnamed is the culmination of much hard work and effort put in by the handful of members who run a Sunday night disco at the club, and everyone is truly grateful to them.
As 1976 is the club's centenary year it is fitting that the racks should be filled with new equipment, providing a sound base for the next 100 years. Improvements to the clubhouse itself are well on the way to completion and the benefits are already being reflected in a rapidly improving social scene.
Many events have been crammed into the centenary calendar, including dinner dances, wine and cheese evenings, car rallies and so on, all designed to make this year one to look back on with pride. On the rowing side there is a junior four all in hard training. There is however a shortage of novices and new starters to the sport, but it is hoped that this all important side will be built up in the near future.
The Boat Club's football team took to the field again last weekend, beating Action Athletico 7-3 in a good - natured game. This now brings the total of games played to eight with four wins, two draws and two defeats.
