Win at Shrewsbury ... 1975

Stourport Boat Club won its sixth trophy of the season at Shrewsbury Regatta, the first double sculls win for the club.
Tom Edwards and Richard Lloyd teamed up to try their luck in this event, and were lucky to row over in the semi-final when a powerful double from Burton failed to turn up. Hereford produced the other finalists, having beaten Royal Shrewsbury in their semi-final. Stourport's fast start put them one length ahead before the start of a long bend in their favour, and Hereford seeing themselves some four lengths behind by 500 metres slowed down to a light paddle, Stourport will be racing this weekend at Reading Regatta where the competition is expected to be much tougher.
Stourport's under 15 four did extremely well to reach the final in what was only their second regatta, coming very close to winning their event. They reached the final against another crew from Hereford. A poor start and a jammed seat put them one length down but great determination saw them fight back to within 1/4 length after a most exciting race. This is a most encouraging result, for every rowing club is looking towards their younger oarsmen.
The Elite B Eight, although never really in contention, rowed well against the Bewdley crew, losing by 1 1/4 lengths on a shorter 500 metre course.
Stourport's Novice Four also rowed well, beating a strong Pengwern crew before losing to Ross in the semi-final. This was a close race with Ross going on to narrowly lose the final, showing how close the Stourport crew is to its elusive novice poy. A few more outings a week as a crew could well prove to be the missing ingredient.
