Scullers' Head ... 1976

Stourport's London Scullers Head results were a little disappointing after such a good start to the centenary year. Nick Birkmyre, sculling for the first time in the Veteran B division was beaten into second place by Gaylard of London, thus ending his reign as the fastest veteran in the country, however, Nick broke a rib last December and has been forced to lay off training for three months, making his final position of 22 out of 380 an amazing feat.

Tom Edwards was unlucky not to beat the magical 100, finishing 113th after his best effort on this 4 1/4 mile course. This is the highest position achieved by a home grown sculler for the club, and in his home-made but heavy boat this was a good result.Richard Lloyd finished 194th which was not up to his best.

The club enters its first sprint event of the season at Evesham on Easter Monday when an Elite B Four, Senior A Four, Senior B Four and various scullers will do battle against other local clubs. Last year's hat-trick at the event started the club's record year for trophies, and it is hoped similar results can be achieved.
