The Accident at The Stourport Regatta ... 1901 In reference to this affair, described in the report of the Regatta on another page, we are now informed that the reports in circulation are somewhat exaggerated. The real facts we are informed are that Wheeler, the boy from the Wolverley School, was seized with cramp in one leg after swimming ten or fifteen yards and was all right again soon after reaching the bank. He is said to be a good swimmer, older than three of his schoolfellows competing in the same race, and has bathed in the Stour all the season without showing the slightest symptoms of fatigue. This does not in the least degree lessen the credit due to Mr D. Glover whose kindly action and prompt and timely rescue of the boy is worthy of all praise and is gratefully appreciated. 6/7/1901 |
